Double height living room, exposed brick wall and asymmetrical pitched roof

Unusually, with the rest of the house complete, our clients wanted to adapt their current kitchen into something befitting the rest of their home; they wanted a space where their family could connect and that would be the centre of their home entertaining lifestyle. The kitchen was raised up from the garden and whilst there was a great view, it wasn’t conducive to inside/outside living.

Our design included a side extension, opening the kitchen up into the new space and stepping down into the extension

It has created a truly magnificent and dramatic double height open plan living space with a direct connection to their new patio and then on to the garden through tall bi-fold glazed doors. This is a modern extension but references traditional architecture with features such as the pitched bay and a circular window giving it an easiness and familiarity. It transforms the original rear of the house into something quite special. Feature lighting changes the quality of the space at night creating a sense of intimacy and the underfloor heating warms the vast space making it homely all year round. The simple, elegant colour palette offsets the exposed brick and allows the spaces to speak for themselves.
