Double height living space and blue wall

Our brief was to increase the value and flexibility of this space in Manchester’s bustling Northern Quarter. Purchased as a flat, we saw the opportunity to secure a change of use to a live/work unit, one of a handful in the city centre at the time. This now means that the unit can be used as either office, apartment or a combination of the two with the added advantage of more financing options.

The main building in which the live/work unit resides is a former pig farm on Tib Street and has been converted into a mixed use block with bars, cafés, florists and even a jazz bar complimenting the flexible unit.

The design cleverly carved out the open space unit to create components of contrasting character making the most of the wonderful ceiling height and exposed timber trusses and steel joists

The style is a comfortable and clean mix of contemporary and traditional with bold accents. One of the bedrooms has a raised sleeping level with alternating tread stair.

The city centre location and nature of the historic block meant that acoustic and fire strategies were paramount and all the relevant issues were overcome.
